Update 7/19: Dick Towers reports on CORE Building progress in "Building Memories."

Burning Man 2011 will be home to a massive art project made up of 23 "small" effigies encircling the Man in a giant ring. The “Circle Of Regional Effigies” (also known as CORE) is comprised of wooden sculptures built by different regional burn crews from places all around North America and even one from Ireland! On Thursday night they are all simultaneously set ablaze in what has been described as the largest intentionally set fire outside of war.

The Burning Flipside community's contribution to this project is the Ouroboros. We will be building the effigy here in Austin, and then transporting it out to Black Rock City prior to the event. Doing so isn't cheap, and the project still needs funding to make it happen! Check out the Ouroboros Kickstarter or keep an eye on our Flipside events calendar for other fundraisers.

You can follow the Flipside C.O.R.E. Project on their blog. Our own Dick Towers of the Web Content Team has volunteered. He will share his experiences working on the effigy and attending Burning Man for the first time as a part of the project in a series of articles for this site.
