[graphic:] Flipside ticket content entry by Julie Menapace ART CARS/MUTANT VEHICLES Does the idea of a golf cart sized carp lit up like a X-mas tree really turn you on? Are you always the first one in the hot tub before it takes off from camp, headed to the ass-less chaps happy hour? Is dancing like a dervish decked out in disco friendly duds around a decibel dealing ATUPAV (All-Terrain-Uber-Party Assault Vehicle) get you off? Even if you didnât answer âHell, yeah!â to any of these questions, youâll still find Flipsideâs flotilla of art cars, mutant vehicles, and helicopters holding a special place in your heart once your dogs start barkinâ or you really get lost looking for GET LOST. To operate the only non-essential vehicles on the grassy playa, mutant vehicles owners must: 1) register before the event, 2) undergo an on-site inspection (of the car), and 3) submit to one-on-one on-site safety interrogation/indoctrination with a DMV Diva before receiving their DMV tags imparting the license to drive during the event. HELP WANTED: Calling all hotties, divas, dorkbots, and do-gooders. The DMV is looking for volunteers to assist in vehicle registration, on-site inspection, interrogation/indoctrination, site setup, enforcement, and bar-b-queing. Fluency in Fun a must. Salary Non-Existent. Great Work Environment. This posting is a certified and an approved EFEO (Equally Freaky Employment Opportunity). If you plan on bringing a mutant vehicle or you are interested in helping out the DMV, please contact the DMV LeadâKoalaâat DMV@burningflipside.com for answers and/or to join the DMV Corps.
HOW TO GET OFF (&) ON ART CARSâ 1) THOU SHALL NOTâtry to get on, impede, or stop a moving art car, mutant vehicle, or helicopter 2) THOU SHALLâdance around, wave your arms, and ask politely to get on a passing mutant vehicle: a) once the mutant vehicle has come to a complete stop, ask for assistance (if needed) or hop on the vehicle in a safe, appropriate manner (Remember: be sure to thank the driver in whatever boundary-approved manner yâall choose) b) If the mutant vehicle does not stop for whatever reason, do not attempt to run down, jump on, hog-tie, and/or flip-off the vehicle or its driver(s). (Remember: when your dogs are barkinâ on day three and itâs a seemingly long haul back to camp, youâll wish youâd been nice.) 3) THOU SHALLâ(if they choose) wait at an approved DMVâUMO Landing Zone, practice your favorite manifestation technique religiously for 30 seconds, and finish by shaking a leg suggestively before any mutant vehicle stops to pick up you and yours (and even his or hers or Its). 4) THOU SHALL NOTâattempt to or attempt to get off a moving mutant vehicle 5) THOU SHALL NOTâoperate any mutant vehicle and/or its artistic additions without permission of its owner(s)/operator(s) (e.g., fire cannons, pants cannons, attractive body parts on vehicle occupants, sounds and light systems, etcâ¦) 6) THOU SHALL NOTâhijack, hoodwink, harass, or harangue the driver whilst they are in command and control of the mutant vehicle. Note, these helpful hints apply to occupants, too. 7) THOU SHALLâhave a good time 8) THOU SHALLâask politely, as well as wait patiently, for a mutant vehicle to come to a complete stop before disembarking from it 9) THOU SHALLâhelp look out for the safety of their fellow freaks, aliens, and even passer-bys at all times 10) THOU SHALLâreport any safety issues, violations, and/or problems to the Pyropolis Rangers immediately Câmon baby, get that cash. You, like so many other Flipizens, may still be in the DREAM BIG stage of your project. You may have started drawing up your plans and gathering your cohorts. After everyone throws two cents, sparkly things, bells and whistles, you have this amazing idea with gears and gizmos galore. Great! Then you start regular runs to the Clone Depot and realize that the one thing you donât have is buckets of that delicious liquidator, CASH. With an astronomical budget and even bigger dreams, what do you do? Throw a fundraiser, of course! Here are some thoughts, precautions, rants and other advice on Fundraising for Flipside. Plan EARLY! March, April and May see lots of competition for a good weekend to throw a party for a hundred or so of your closest friends. Get the word out to larger circles that you are planning on a certain night. (HINT: One good way to do that is by announcing your date in the Flipside Flame.) Do your research before picking a date. Come to Church Night and ask around for other people planning fundraisers. Check around for Austin events that will draw your crowd away, like Art Outside or Eeyoreâs Birthday Party. Consider your location The warehouse is a good place for community events. When it is good, it is very very good. When itâs rainy or the neighbors are complaining, it kinda sucks. Someoneâs house is a good alternative if you are planning something that will go extremely late or get extremely weird. If music is the main draw, consider whether finding a music venue is worth it to avoid having the cops shut down your event. If you want to schedule an event at the warehouse, talk to Sodium as soon as you have a date in mind. Be realistic about your projections Raising more than a thousand dollars in one event is a tall order. Donât spend ridiculous sums in hopes of making it back at the event. Take donations, make stuff yourself and plan your spending wisely. Expand your audience If you plan for an event that will appeal mostly to others in the Burn Community, you can go further with the weird and the wrong without fear of offending people. But remember, if you only draw from other Flipizens, youâll be asking for money from people who will likely be asking you for money in a week or two. If you spread the word a little further, you wonât be working your ass off only to trade money with other camps. Austin has lots of interesting people who good parties. Offer up the fun Putting the FUN in Fundraiser is a cliché way to put it, but thatâs what you gotta do. Most of your audience is busy putting heroic efforts into their own projects. When they take time off to play, they need to play. Provide multiple kinds of entertainment to draw more interest. Have a raffle or prizes. ALWAYS provide food as well as drink. Make sure your event has enough stuff going on to be enticing. Use people power Volunteers are the soul of getting a fundraiser going. Have more people than you need because there will always be small details that need attention. Thanks for dreaming big. Happy Flipside Planning Season Craziness! Delia fundraiser-crazy
[graphic:] March 6-16th, 2008 ]artoutside.org ART OUTSIDE 2008 @ Austin Enchanted Forest 1412 W. Oltorf - Austin, TX Zion Communal Kitchen & Hookah Lounge Where anyone who is anyone at Flipside, is able to come by and relax, eat, get snacks and refreshments. There will be plenty of fresh water for those who may need some to stay hydrated. We will have daily meals such as Spaghetti (With and without Meat), Cream of Mushroom Chicken over noodles, and Meat upon glorious Meat. Snacks include Warlockâs Famous Fries (AKA Curly Fries without the Curly- Upon Request), cold refreshments like iced fruit cocktail, and other snacks and meals TBD/A. A new addition to the Camp this year will be member from the House of Madness from Baton Rogue, LA. They will be bringing out a smoker and cooking communal meals also. So look forward to this year being better than last year. This is a communal Kitchen and everyone is encouraged to bring something to the kitchen. Please join the yahoo group to stay in contact and commit to what is needed. An inventory list will be post on food items needed for the meals. Please commit to donate to one or multiple items, food and equipment. Last year we were a dedicated Water Stop, we had only 20 Gallons for drinking water. I would like to have people dedicate to bring out at least one 5 gallon bottle if you are able to. Donate the use of the water and bottle and pick up at the end of the event. We almost ran out of water because our friend that was bringing the remaining three bottles, as we only brought one for the first night, showed up later than expected and we had to execute water conservation. Drinking water is strictly for cooking and drinking. We have a wash stating with regular water; that is where the other water is to be used. Remember that if you have the food but not a place to cook, come on by. Just remember the Rules: House Rule- âYou Use It = You Clean It!â or Warlockâs Rule- âThose who cook- feed those that are hungry. Those who eat, help out where needed!â One more point that needs to be stressed for this year. We will not be providing plates, cups, and utensils for the meals as last year we were left with doing all the dishes. So bring you own or donât eat. Paper plates are encouraged as they can be burned in the fire pit that we will have at our camp. Also read your survival guide for more information on bring what you need to survive, Leave no trace and packing out your trash. No one goes hungry in the Communal Kitchen, We usually bring enough food for an army, but have left in the past with way more food that I have brought, even after cooking most of the time. So this time We will bring enough food for a battalion. Donât want to waste any food. (Note: Flipside â06 I left the event with a 120 Quart cooler still full of meat and food. It was gifted to the Rangers and Earth Guardians that stayed for cleanup. Flipside â07 we still had some meat left over that was frozen but not as much) As for the Hookah Lounge we will be bringing that back as well. I know for certain that we have 4 hookahs to bring out to the event, last year someone bring their 1-hose hookah and left it at the camp for the duration of the event to contribute. Thank you for your equipment. This year we should have more cushions, it should be Air-Conditioned in a tent dedicated to the lounge, and completely black-light lit with reactive fabric and colors. It was a huge success and hit last year. Bring what you can. If you have a spare hookah it would be appreciated and also will be taken care of. We should have three extra hookah coming out to be used for the event from another friend this year as well. More flavors to come and more inform on the different flavors. Should you want to purchase a specific flavor and donate to the Hookah Lounge. Everyone is encouraged to Participate and to become Active in this event. Flipside is a communal event that brings all of us closer as the family that we are. Meal Schedules will be posted as the time comes closer, would love for those that plan on being part of Zion to communicate with me and we can organize what to bring and all pitch in together. The community has been great in the past and I know that you all will be a great help in the future. Much love and respect to everyone that helps out with this theme camp, all other theme camps, coordinators, rangers, and everyone else that make Flipside happen.
