• LLC Update
o Had a good all hands meeting yesterday.
Format was great. Should tell the Leads that they need to find their AF, not if they want to.
Second all hands closer to the event. The agenda will be a check-in and rah rah type session, and a timeline run through.
o Three months out from Flipside.
o Work weekend this weekend.
Can have dogs on site and must be monitored/on a leash.
o Safety team is stepping up its planning for the event.
Really good ranger recruitment
Sound testing will happen soon.
• Townhall Aftermath
o The warehouse was tightly packed, and lots of people outside
o Worth considering a speaker outside again.
o Maybe a green room type area to isolate sound.
o Signage for talking/meeting areas.
o New Venue?
o Townhall Eve for fundraising. The warehouse is always available for fundraising events assuming it meets the criteria and work with the warehouse managers.
There was a request to do a fundraiser after townhall last year. The LLC decided that this would be a slippery slope.
Townhall wasn’t the place for this. It’s a time to bring the community together.
Probably need a future discussion on this to decide policy.
Choice of words is critical, be careful when responding to this type of request.
Haven’t drawn a line in the sand yet on this, the LLC just wanted to preserve the spirit of townhall.
No hard feeling with those affected.
Vote on Fundraising at townhall: unanimously against.
• Finalize Structure of Sustainability Meeting
o Probably need to be more specific than Ghosts agenda from last meeting.
o Need to make sure we aren’t preaching, more of a brainstorming session.
o We aren’t going to have some people that really need to be preached at.
o Not just problems, but successes.
Where the culture/community has changed our lives and made things better.
o Sustainability is a big topic that we can talk about forever. Divide meeting into sections or open forum?
o Talk about the principals. Talk about the problem(s).
o Don’t want this to devolve into a “Things used to be better” situation.
o Use of county resources and all the other things that can hurt us.
o Sustainability is too vague we need to create a specific agenda. It will devolve into people telling stories and complaining.
o “Did you go talk to them about this?” – Take care of this yourself if you can.
o Rangers have no inherent authority. The only authority that Rangers have is to help them understand the rules that they agreed to by buying a ticket.
o We need a very specific goal from this meeting. What is the meeting about? Sound, Ambulances, Police, etc.
o A significant increase in new people over the couple of years. They don’t read the survival guide, they don’t get it. The sense of what this community is is getting lost.
o We don’t have a good idea of what the Social Contract is. We need to get people on the same Zip Code of what a social contract is.
o The survival guide is not the social contract, but it is pieces of it. The survival guide is no just how you survive flipside, but how flipside survives you.
o We don’t want this to be a witch hunt.
o The LLC brought up a problem that we’ve all seen before. Things aren’t like they were before. The LLC is aware of the big picture. When they’ve heard about it from so many places it’s time to talk about it. It is the fact that the community has grown. Flipside isn’t what we think it is, it’s what everyone else thinks it is.
o Sound will only go this high, you need to get out by 5 o’clock.
o People aren’t helping each other. People are treating it like it’s walking down Congress Ave.
o The community needs to talk about the bigger pictures, not just the band aids.
o The whole idea of escalation, at what point have we failed. Is it when we’re not picking up trash? Is it when we’re forced to deal with Rangers? Where does it go after the Rangers? To the LLC. If it gets to the point where the LLC is talking to cops, we’ve failed. If it goes further, someone is going to jail, then we have really failed.
o This is an ongoing discussion there won’t be a 10-point plan or a blue ribbon panel.
o The LLC can ban people, this is the only tooth that the LLC has.
o We really want Rangers to be tour guides, not security guards or cops. Rangers are becoming the security guard and cop more and more.
o There have to be some rules. We don’t like them, but liability dictates this.
o This meeting is just the beginning of the conversation that should have begun years ago.
o In the interest of having a productive meeting, lining out some examples of how we are going to prevent some specific issues would be helpful.
o Should be primarily focused on the things that will end flipside.
o Radical Inclusivity – How far do we want to take this and how long do we to keep doing this.
o Nothing will get accomplished because the topic is too vague. If we just want to start a discussion would the flame or list be a better venue for this?
o Part of the problem is us. Because we can’t fully communicate to them what the event is, and we aren’t being fully accepting of some of the people and we aren’t being accepting and compassionate. We need to not prejudge new people.
o The principals are on the website.
Self Expression
• Our events foster an environment of creative self-expression, where participants feel supported to honestly express their inner selves, through artistic creation, performance, and in their social interactions.
Accountability
• Our events foster an environment of personal accountability, where we hold ourselves responsible for our own actions, and take personal responsibility for meeting our own needs, for the event itself, and for the event's impact on the world at large.
Cooperation
• Our events foster an environment of cooperation, where participants work together to resolve potential conflicts between one another, to help mediate conflicts between others, and to create art, performance, and social spaces on a larger scale than one person could alone.
Why isn’t this on the front page?
o We shouldn’t start with problems and we don’t want to be strictly logistical. We don’t need to be firefighters, we need to treat the social issues and that requires social solutions.
o Inclusivity doesn’t mean we need to tolerate anti-social behavior.
o Actions don’t have consequences right now. We need to have consequences so that people learn and grow and change.
o What is Flipside? This needs to be put down on paper. We need a starting point.
o This conversation cannot all be face to face. We need to have a civil conversation. No name calling, flame bait, flame wars, etc.
o This isn’t just a message to the community; this is feedback from the community.
o The people who are the problem won’t be at the meeting.
o Agenda:

Inclusivity Limits
• Welcome the Stranger

Thicker Skin
Outreach
Buddy System
• Suggest, don’t mandate?
Accountability
o Pregame this meeting on Austin-List, Chat, etc? Let people that can’t get here give feedback do so on list etc.
o The facilitator should be a moderator and stop people when they go off topic.
o Have a several page stack, so that we can put people on a stack for a later topic.
o Send notification out on all available mediums: chat, list, announce, theme camp leads list, etc.
o AI: Prost will send out the email.
o AI: Beth to work with CC on times for the meeting.
o Something that affects ownership and this community, we enforce the community standards. Some people don’t care to enforce some of the community standards. If a rule isn’t important to the community is it import enough to be enforced?
• Event-List Moderator
o We are now missing an event moderator after Jana resigned.
o Princess and Zack will both do it.
o BC will give them the moderator password.
