Context
Heart Render is an attempt to capture the hero’s journey of the heart. The Hero’s Journey is a timeless story structure which follows a protagonist on an unforeseen quest, where they face challenges, gain insights, and return home transformed. In an effort to capture this, Heart Render will feature three levels: the first level will serve as an invitation to experience some of the darker emotions we keep locked up. If you’re feeling brave (courage!), you will ascend a spiral staircase of disconcerting soundscapes, light/decor/effects that conjure a feeling of constriction, fear and apprehension.
As you climb to the second and third levels, you will notice a gradual lightening and openness. Staying present with ourselves and discovering that we will survive experiences of uncomfortable feelings creates a sense of safety in self. This place of safety is the fertile ground where play and joy happen spontaneously. The second and third levels will be devoted to a feeling of play and triumph. You did it!
We want art that represents this journey, in whatever way you imagine it. We’ll have spaces for art pieces placed throughout all levels. Do you want to create something playful? Something darker? Both? Let us know!
Interactive Art Opportunities
Lock/Key cubbies
We’ll be building cubbies throughout the effigy that have a corresponding lock/key. If you’re interested, your art may be displayed inside one of these cubbies and some lucky participants will find the key that fits so your art can be revealed. If you’re interested in displaying your art in a cubby, you will have max dimensions of 2ft x 2ft x 1ft depth. Please also provide us with a clue or a riddle of some kind that will help the hippies find the right key.
Heart Treasure Map
If we get enough folks who wish to participate, we will also be including some treasure maps in the effigy cubbies. These treasure maps will correspond to heart-related art all over pyropolis, just waiting to be admired! Would you like to display some heart art somewhere in your theme camp to include on the map? In the badlands? Effigy field? Port-o? Let us know!
Other Stuff to Know
Size/dimensions/types of Effigy Art
We are accepting 2D and 3D art of all kinds and sizes. If you wish to have your art in a cubby, note that your max cubby size will be 1ft in depth, no more than 2ft in either direction (2x2x1).
Do you want your art to burn with the effigy?
We will need to know whether you wish your art to burn with the effigy. Please communicate with the effigy team your wishes so we can be sure to remove your piece from the effigy before burning if requested.
If you want your art to burn, we’ll need your art to adhere to the following guidelines:
No synthetic fabric
No chemicals
No acrylic paint
YES to organic materials, tempera paint, non-treated canvas

Looking for experienced builders and complete newbies alike- you’ll get hands on training through the season. Only have a little time and can’t commit to every work day? No problem at all!
