Art registration closed 11:59pm CST April 1st (no joke!). If you missed the deadline, need to update your registration or just need to talk to someone about art you are bringing to the event, please email Art@burningflipside.com immediately. Registering your art is for the purpose of having reserved space and placement for your piece and to be included in the map.

DaFT: Volunteer and Build Big Art!
Need some Saw Dust Therapy or even just a little DaFT curious? The Design and Fabrication Team is going full speed up at the warehouse (3106 Industrial Terrace, Austin, TX 78758 if you have not been) on Wednesday and Thursday nights from 6pm to 10pm and Sundays 11am-7pm. Built stuff before? Awesome, come on down. Never touched a tool in your life but always wanted to? Fantastic, come on down and learn something new. If just showing up seems a little daunting or you want some more information, reach out to DaFT@burningflipside.com
Also, just a reminder- if you are an artist less interested in building the BIG thing and are more interested in looking to help make things especially weird and fabulous in smaller ways, reach out to daft@burningflipside.com to see how you might be able to help. It’s the biggest community created art piece in the pecan playa- everyone is welcome (and encouraged) to DaFT.
This effigy ain’t gonna build itself!

Art & Theme-Camp Registration Now Open
Bringing an art project, art car, or theme camp to Flipside this year? Register it!
All theme camps need to be registered in order to be placed. Providing complete and accurate information will help the City Planning team make sure everyone has enough room and is well situated in our fair city of Pyropolis.
Most art installations do not need to be registered (the exception is burnable art), but if you do register, your project can be placed on the map so everyone can find it.
Art cars need to be registered (read more about art cars here). This can be done in advance or on site, but who wants to fill out a bunch of forms on site? Do it ahead of time.
Finally, if you’re holding an event at Flipside, you can register your event so it gets on a schedule where people can find out about it.
Register here. You’ll need to be signed in.
Work Weekends!
Work Weekends are scheduled to make sure everything is ready for Burning Flipside. We gather downed tree branches, clean up trails, and give the land some love before Pyropolis takes shape. There’s plenty of work for folks of all skills levels. If you want to learn to do something you’ve not done before, we’ll help you learn how.
This first WW is focusing on clearing downed trees and limbs. Later in the Spring, we start working on poison ivy removal and fire ant eradication.
You can camp all weekend, but overnights are not required. The focus is getting work done. While there are good times around the fire at night (burn ban and weather permitting), this is not a party. They are Leave No Trace weekends, and you must provide for yourself as if you were at a burn (bring your own food and water). NO DOGS, and no open nudity are permitted.
There is a smoker on site, and we will be cooking some meat. We could use someone to help with this – let us know if it’s you! Please bring a side or snack to share.
All work weekends start at 6pm on Friday, and everyone has to be off the land by 5pm on Sunday.
PLAN AHEAD!
Work Weekend 1: Feb 15-17 (this weekend!)
Work Weekend 2: Mar 15-17
Work Weekend 3: Apr 12-14
Work Weekend 4: May 3-5
Let us know if you are coming! You may not be allowed on the property unless you have signed up on the spreadsheet before the work weekend. You must sign a waiver on site, too.

Ticket Design Details
Please include the following information within your Ticket design:
- Burning Flipside: Sisyphean Celebration
- May 23-27, 2019
- www.burningflipside.com
Technical specifications
- The actual ticket size is 2 1/8″ × 4 7/8″.
- The bottom 3/4″ is a stub that will be torn off at gate.
- The artwork should extend by 1/8″ outside the ticket edges to allow for “bleed.”
- Critical elements should be inset by 1/8″ inside the ticket edges to create a “clear zone” in case the trim is misaligned.
- Artwork should be CMYK.
- Artwork should be supplied at 100% size as either vector art (illustrator or freehand) or at 300 dpi if raster art.
- If Photoshop – .tif, .eps, .psd and .jpeg files are preferred.
- Save jpeg files with “maximum quality”.
- You can download this template to visualize all this.
- Leave a 1/2″ x 13/16″ space for the Flipside logo to be added to your ticket.
- Tips for successful reproduction of your design:
- You must pay attention to specs, or you could be disqualified.
- Do not place text too close to the edge of your design. It should be 1/8″ in on either side once the artwork is trimmed.
- Pick fonts that will be easy to read and try to not use a font that is really thin on a dark background. It will “plug-up” and be hard to read.
- Do not get too complex, it is often easier to create artwork at a larger size and reduce it down. Keep in mind what it will look like at the smaller size.
- If you create your art in layers, be sure and save that layered file just in case the printer needs anything altered – this will make it easier on them and you.
- Sticker Design Details
Please include at least the following information within your Sticker design: “Flipside 2019”
Sticker Design Details
Please include at least the following information within your Sticker design:
- “Flipside 2019”
Technical specifications
- Submit in black and white (or another color and white). But not multiple colors for the sticker.
- Sticker Art should cover a 2 1/2 ” circle at 300 dpi.
- All halftones are screened at 55 lpi and may not look great.
- Critical elements should be inset by 1/8″ inside the edge to create a “clear zone” in case the trim is misaligned.
- If your design runs to the edge, extend it past the edge by 1/8″ outside the ticket edges to allow for “bleed.”
- Tips for successful reproduction of your design:
- Make your design simple! Intricate and super-fine lines (less than 1-pt) tend to dry up in the screen and will not show up on the sticker. For your reference, 1pt lines are roughly the same size as what a medium ball point pen will draw. Serifed fonts can be a nightmare – especially at small point sizes. Set all type to at LEAST 10 points.
- In the past we’ve only printed black and white stickers. Grayscale or gradients are a real pain and don’t print very well, so try to stick to solid colors. If you want to submit a two or three color image, that’s fine and it will be reviewed, but (depending on cost) it may end up being converted into black and white.
Keep in mind all designs must be original. No clip art, and no copy written material may be used. The designs can be created digitally or by hand. So break out your pen, marker, crayon or stylus and get the ideas flowing.
All submissions please sent to STickets@burningflipside.com.
Anyway…deadline is February 6th Midnight. As soon as the day turns Feb. 7th it’s no more. Still have lots of time!!
STickets!! It’s where the art starts!!!! starts… starts… starts PERFECT! 😀

TICKETS! TICKETS! TICKETS!
Hello, lovely Flipiziens! It is I, Ste. Michelle, Patron Saint of Ticket Distribution!
I am your new Ticket Lead, and I promise to bring you a kinder and gentler Ticket process!!*
The 2019 Ticket Window is set in stone, making it difficult to see through it, and more like a date range than a window, but whatever. The date range is important because:
- You have to register your ticket request on the website during this date-range, and
- You have to mail in your completed ticket request during the same date-range.
It’s the second most important date range of the event (the most important date range ends on Memorial day, if you get my drift).
Things to remember:
– The date range is January 7-28, 2019.
– No personal checks
– Clear your cache
– Read the instructions
– No.personal.checks.
– No, seriously, read the instructions.
If you have difficulties, and you have actually read the instructions and cleared your cache, you can email the ticket lead from the contact page: www.burningflipside.com/contact I promise to respond. With actual answers. To questions you have actually asked. I’m fancy that way.
Bonus round things to know:
– Decorating your envelope is your first chance to gift your art to the burner community. It cheers up the ticket volunteers, and I’m not saying there’s a competition, but you might just win, and never know it.
– If you decorate your envelope to the extent that it may be difficult to get to us (gluing stuff to the outside, covering up the space for the address, not buying stamps), the USPS will sell you a stamped flat-rate envelope for under $7 that will protect your art and get it to us safely.
– If you muck it up, I might be able to help. But you should let me know ASAP.
NO PERSONAL CHECKS!!!
*If you know me and the last few ticket leads, you should probably share your knowledge with other people who don’t know me at all. Muahahahahahah!
Love and Tickets,
Ste. Michelle,
Patron Saint of NO PERSONAL CHECKS!
