It’s pretty straightforward, so start saving your pennies and planning your envelopes! We’ll post more about the ticket opening as the details become available.

Combustion Chamber Mixer

We are pleased to invite you to attend the Rainbow Unicorn Holiday Summit.

This event is a gathering of thoughtful, iconoclastic doers from around the world who share a common interest in practical and farcical solutions for the Rainbow v. Unicorn controversy. Our vision is ambitious, which is nothing less than to listen to our community members discuss the importance of unicorns, rainbows and all other compelling community topics, while enjoying the chill and consuming tasty treats. The event will take place at the heart of Burning Flipside community, Lloyd the Warehouse, on December 12th, at 7:42pm. We encourage you to celebrate our diversity in costume. As always, this event is BYOB & LNT.

 Sticker/Ticket (Sticket!)

Hey Flipizens!

Would you like free tickets to Flipside 2017: Unicorns vs. Rainbows: The Reckoning?

And did you know that designing the ticket or the sticker is actually the only way to get free tickets to Flipside?!? Leads, volunteers, even LLC members, pay for their tickets.

Design the Flipside ticket or sticker and submit your design today!  The person who submits the winning STICKER design will get TWO free tickets to Flipside 2017. The person who submits the winning TICKET design will also receive TWO free tickets to Flipside 2017.

Keep in mind all designs must be original. No clip art, and no copy written material may be used. The designs can be created digitally or by hand.

So break out your pen, marker, crayon or stylus and get the ideas flowing.  Hand-drawn submissions are perfectly fine, but must be delivered before the deadline: 10 pm Monday January 30, 2017.

Submit your designs or any questions at
https://www.burningflipside.com/contact

We will positively confirm every submission we receive, so if you do not receive a confirmation within a few days, please email us back, and we will confirm receipt.

Please do not post or display your Ticket or Sticker design anywhere else until after the contest ends.  (The artist for the winning ticket design will be asked to refrain from posting it anywhere until after the event.)

Burning Flipside will do its best to include all submitted designs, in some form of hype, the survival guide, or the website, so your art should get seen.  When you submit you are implicitly giving permission for us to use your design – on the ticket or sticker, on the Burning Flipside website, or in the Survival Guide. If for some reason you do not want to give this permission, please specify that when you submit. Also please indicate how you would like your art to be credited.

TICKET Design Details

Please include the following information within your Ticket design:

  • Burning Flipside
  • Unicorns vs. Rainbows: The Reckoning
  • May 25-29, 2017
  • www.burningflipside.com

Keep these things in mind:

  • Artwork should be 2.375 x 4.375 inches.
  • 1/8 inch all around WILL BE CUT OFF creating a final size of 2.125 x 4.125 – this extra space is called bleed.
  • Artwork should be CMYK.
  • Artwork should be supplied at 100% as either vector based art (illustrator or freehand) or at 300dpi if it is a Photoshop file.
  • If Photoshop – .tif, .eps, .psd and .jpeg files are preferred.  Please save jpeg files with “maximum quality”.

Tips for successful reproduction of your design:

  •  You must pay attention to specs, or you could be disqualified.
  • Do not place text too close to the edge of your design. It should be 1/8″ in on either side once the artwork is trimmed. Pick fonts that will be easy to read and try to not use a font that is really thin on a dark background. It will “plug-up” and be hard to read.
  • Do not get too complex, it is often easier to create artwork at a larger size and reduce it down. Keep in mind what it will look like at the smaller size.
  • If you create your art in layers, be sure and save that layered file just in case the printer needs anything altered – this will make it easier on them and you.

STICKER Design Details

Please include at least the following information within your Sticker design:

  • Flipside 2017

Tips for successful reproduction of your design:

  • Submit in black and white (or another color and white). But not multiple colors for the sticker.
  • Sticker Art should cover a 2.5″ circle at 300dpi.
  • Make your design simple! Intricate and super-fine lines (less than 1-pt) tend to dry up in the screen and will not show up on the sticker. For your reference, 1pt lines are roughly the same size as what a medium ball point pen will draw.  It is a good idea to keep important elements of your artwork at least 1/8″ from the edge of the sticker to allow for cutting. Serifed fonts can be a nightmare – especially at small point sizes. Set all type to at LEAST 10 points.
  • In the past we’ve only printed black and white stickers.  Grayscale or gradients are a real pain and don’t print very well, so try to stick to solid colors.  If you want to submit a two or three color image, that’s fine and it will be reviewed, but (depending on cost) it may end up being converted into black and white.  All halftones are screened at 55 lpi.

Have fun! good luck! We look forward to seeing the designs as they come in.  It is an incredible outpouring from this intensively creative community! It’s a pleasure to serve as your STicket team.

Volunteer: Leads Needed

Hi, Flipizens!  Now that we know that we are due a Reckoning between Unicorns and Rainbows, it’s time to put together the team that is going to make the whole thing go!  All of our leads are open, and we would like to know if you, or someone you hold in high esteem is willing to be one of our leads!

What is a lead, you ask?  They’re the people that organize our teams that go and do work.  Every group that you interact with at the event, be it Ice, PETs, Parking, or even Church Night, has a lead that puts together the people and resources necessary to make the thing go.

We’d love to have you!  And if it seems like too much, we promise to have lots of help.

Are you just drawn in yet?  Well, mosey down to this form and let us know!

Nominations close on October 28th, so act now!

Thank you,
Dahling Schmooley-Sweetiepoo (Volunteer Coordinator)

Call for Proposals – Flipside 2017 Design and Fabrication Team (DaFT)

Calling all Unicorns and/or Rainbows, Burning Flipside needs an EFFIGY!

If you have a strong opinion or a grand vision about what Pyropolis should build and burn in ‘017, and you’ve got the time, crew, and plan for how to do it, now’s the time to tell us! Effigy proposals are due by 11:59 pm on Nov 20th!

Being a DaFT lead means you’re responsible for designing the effigy and leading the build team to create the Flipside Effigy, both during pre-event and on-site. You don’t necessarily need to be a professional engineer, architect, or carpenter, though these skills certainly help. We suggest you seek advice from experienced builders and project leaders, should you need assistance or advice. It’s a challenge, but don’t be scared! Be a rockstar! Lead DaFT!

Don’t wait till it’s too late! The DaFT (Design and Fabrication Team) Selection Committee is here to help! Prior to the deadline, show (one or all of) us what you’ve got! Pick our brains! We’re all ex-DaFT leads, so we’ll be able to give you real insight into how to (or not to) build, delegate, lift, bolt, screw, nail, cut, ShopBot, beat-to-fit, transport, budget, burn, and otherwise DO the effigy things.

Read the Proposal guidelines.

Special topics are as follows:

October 17:

  • AAR Update
  • Regionals Update

  • CC Business

October 24:

  • AAR Update
  • Regionals Update
  • Operational Update
  • Accountability: How do we encourage and support the accountability of participants? How does the community ensure the accountability of others? Does lax enforcement encourage flouting of our principles?
  • Recycling: Recycling as an department on Flipside’s org chart has been a topic of ongoing discussion, and after an especially tough year for volunteering in Recycling, maybe it’s time to revive that discussion.
  • CC Business

Burning Flipside Fall Town Hall

On September 24, 2016, come help decide what the Burning Flipside 2017 Theme will be! Join us at Lloyd the Warehouse; tailgating begins at noon, with the Town Hall program starting at at 2:34 pm.

Facebook Event

If you have a theme camp to showcase, or if you’re recruiting membership to your theme camp, bring a booth to inform the crowd. We’ll be looking for volunteers to set up, tear down and help monitor the parking situation (because we don’t want to make our neighbors grumpy by taking up their parking spaces). Theme camp adoption of some of these gigs is a great way to build community.

To submit a Theme for Burning Flipside 2017, hit up the Theme Page (you’ll need a secure login to access it).

Community Respect Discussion: Session 3

On Sunday, September 25th, beginning at 1 pm, the Combustion Chamber will host the next installment of our discussion on Race, Respect, and Diversity at Lloyd the Warehouse. In hopes of serving a broad group of people, we have divided this session into three parts. Please free to join us for one, two, or all three parts. If you were unable to attend the previous session in which these concepts were introduced, please join us for Part I.

Part I: 1 pm – 2:45 pm: A guided discussion reviewing some of the concepts and vocabulary that we began to discuss in previous sessions, including: Privilege, Intersectionality, Racism, Prejudice, Discrimination, & Rights.

Part II: 3 pm-4pm: We will break into small discussion groups, allowing community members to engage in unguided discussion regarding concepts and vocabulary.

Part III: 4 pm – 6 pm This section will build upon and explore more of the history, complexity, and nuance of Modern American Racism and its effects on our community. We will also build some tools that will allow each participant to lead this type of discussion in a safe environment.

Please come and help us ask the hard questions. We know there are no easy answers…but, hey, our community doesn’t often do things the easy way. We will look at these issues in an environment of collegiality and discussion, and welcome all to take part. All we ask is that you approach this seriously and with respect.

Lloyd the Warehouse Cleanup

The Warehouse, Lloyd, is still full of post Flipside stuff. Lots of operational stuff out and not put away. People and art projects have loaded out for the desert, and then they came back, and now it’s Fall Town Hall just that quick. Wednesdays at church night, let’s make a dent in that shit. Many hands make for a better experience. It’s our house. If you haven’t been, come out and see the new warehouse. If you have been, come see the changes.

For those in the dessert this year who shipped their stuff out on the community truck, it will be a better experience loading back in from a functional warehouse. Come help make that possible.
If you are in an infrastructure team and worked for Site-ops and Safety in particular, come help out. A lot of that shit is yours/ours.

I ain’t your mother and if somehow I look like her, bless your mother, she has had a hard life. Call her and apologize.
Nothing but love,
cLovis

Reminder: Church Nights are BYOB and Leave No Trace. No MOOP!

Combustion Chamber Seeks Scribes

Flipizens!

Austin Artistic Reconstruction, (AAR) LLC and the Combustion Chamber (CC) need scribes—ideally, a pair of scribes—working together on rotation, to document the CC meetings. We currently are short on that number, and you can help! Here’s an FAQ:

Why be a Scribe?

This is a great position for a reliable person who wants to know what’s going on with Flipside. If you can type pretty fast, have a couple of free hours on Monday nights (twice a month), and can operate a word processing application of any kind, and love your community–this gig is for you.

The CC discusses all sorts of things–ranging from very philosophical to procedural–but all are topics relevant and necessary to the continued growth of the Flipside community. It’s always thought provoking and friendly, no matter what.

What’s even more necessary is that we have people we can trust to record the meetings so that others may live vicariously/stay tuned in.

Relatively new to the community and want to geek out on the details? Be a Scribe.

Been around a while and want to reconnect with the goings on? Be a Scribe.

What do Scribes do?

  1. First and foremost, the Scribe is responsible for taking notes at CC meetings (every other Monday at the Warehouse, in general).
You’ll document the agenda, discussion on those topics, record motions, note decisions and action items. Therefore, good listening and note taking/typing skills are key.
  2. The Scribe will need the means and skill for recording the relevant information from a constant stream of conversation. Ideally, this means you have a laptop and rapid typing skills. You take notes during the meeting, go home and clean up the typos, send the doc out to the CC, who then broadwaves them to the community at large.
  3. Scribes also make sure we have CC members lined up for the next meeting’s ‘Stack’ and ‘Facilitator’ positions.

What kind of time commitment are we talking about?

Typically, the CC meets every other Monday night around 7:42PM at the Warehouse. Meetings usually last 2-3 hours. We need a scribe for every CC meeting, so ideally we need two people who can work together to make sure that each meeting is covered.

The Scribes are responsible for coordinating their schedules to make sure that at least one of them can attend each meeting.

The CC needs YOU! (But only once or twice a month!)

Interested? Want to know more?

  1. Contact us at https://www.burningflipside.com/contact if you’re sure!
  2. If you’re not sure, attend a CC meeting or two, get a feel for how it works. You won’t be sorry.

  • Capitalizing on Flipside Work Experience: discuss creating a committee for setting guidelines for listing experience on social media and resumes, work verification process etc.

  • CC Business

August 22:

  • AAR Update
  • Regionals Update
  • Communicating Open Lead and Area Facilitator Positions
  • Fall Town Hall Planning

Have a topic you believe the community needs to discuss? Send suggestions to us at https://www.burningflipside.com/contact.  Keep in mind that we discuss community and policy issues, not operational ones.

Who Can/Should Attend:
You! If you care about the event and especially if you care about any of these topics you should come to discuss them.

Why this matters:
The CC provides advice to AAR, LLC. In turn, AAR provides the overall direction and policy guidance that end up making the event happen. The topics discussed at this meeting may have a direct impact on you during the actual Flipside event and/or at the AAR, LLC warehouse.

CC meetings are a great way to stay informed about what’s happening in our community.
Meeting minutes will be posted as they are received.

Clean Up & Post Operations POSTPONED One Week

Burning Flipside happened and it was Awesome! Now we need your help on the post event weekend clean up. Saturday, June 4th at noon we had many hands at Lloyd the Warehouse to organize and clean the space, getting it ready for the infrastructure returning from Pyropolis the following weekend. Thanks to those who made it out!

Next weekend, June 11th, we need help on site to pack up all the infrastructure that is going back to Lloyd the warehouse and perform any restoration needs to return the land to how we found it.

You may have noticed we had a little weather this year. Well the Thorndale area is expecting that trend to continue and even get worse over the next several days. As such, the traditional Saturday cleanup is postponed until Saturday June 11th.

As usual, meet up at the land at 10am or come by the warehouse at 9am to carpool/caravan.

While we are not anticipating the need for trailers as we have in the past few years, they are welcome. If you plan on bringing one, please indicate it by signing up at https://wiki.burningflipside.com/wiki/PrePost

If you have any questions please contact me at
https://www.burningflipside.com/contact

Combustion Chamber Meetings Resume

Everybody needs a breather after the event, so the next CC Meeting is June 20, 2016.

The Combustion Chamber is an advisory committee to the Austin Artistic Reconstruction LLC to facilitate community input & transparency for the policy-making process and organization of burn community events. CC meetings each start at 7:42 pm at the Warehouse.

Special topics are as follows:

June 20:

  • LLC Update
  • Regionals Update
  • Flipside Recap
  • Event Length: Is the event too long, too short or just right? How would an alteration to the length impact volunteers, budget and other aspects of the event?

Have a topic you believe the community needs to discuss? Send suggestions to us at
https://www.burningflipside.com/contact.  Keep in mind that we discuss community and policy issues, not operational ones.

Church Nights Continue

Remember to take care of yourselves as we reintegrate into Default Camp. Part of keeping the sense of community going is making it out to CC Meetings and Church Nights. Come hang out at Lloyd the Warehouse, work on projects, gab with fellow participants, and keep the warm fuzzy burning love alive. Folks arrive any time after 7:30 or so on Wednesday nights. Church Nights are BYOB and Leave No Trace. No MOOP!

City Planning Needs Awesome People

The City Planning crew are looking for people with a specific set of skills to help label the city. There are two crews that will be working the weekend before Flipside: Flagging and City and Street Signage.

Flagging

Do you like really knowing where camps are located before you get to Flipside? Can you read a map? Have you been trying to find Pelican Camp for years? Flagging may be for you!

Flagging helps define the boundaries of theme camps with what we like to call “flags” because that’s what they are called. If you are interested, contact the Flagging lead, Terran, at
https://www.burningflipside.com/contact
.

City and Street Signage

Do you want to get a deeper understanding of the roads of Flipside? Can you work a socket wrench or screwdriver? Do you want to help tell people where they can go? City and Street Signage may be for you!

City and Street Signage helps people find where they are, if not where they want to be, by putting up helpful street signs around the town. If you are interested, contact the City and Street Signage lead at
https://www.burningflipside.com/contact
.

A Very Exciting Four Way

Pyropolis has grown up, kids. And this year, some of the roads are hitting puberty and making changes with how they want to be ridden on. The biggest change is where all the roads converge. This year, instead of “going straight” past the convergence, you will need to cross over. Which means a four way stop. Well, I guess technically it’s a two way, since both roads are one way, but where’s the innuendo in that?

Confused? Me too. Here’s a map that will make it all SUPER CLEAR! Memorize it, because once you get out there, there’s no way to tell which direction to go.

What? Oh, okay, fine, we’ll put up signs, if you are going to be that way about it. But you better pay attention to those signs! People worked hard to put them there!

2016RoadDirectionMap

We Need Drivers

Can you help move the infrastructure needed to make the event happen? On Saturday, May 21, SiteOps needs volunteers who can drive the Penske rental trucks out to the land and back the same day. If you’re interested, contact us at https://www.burningflipside.com/contact.

Pre/Post Volunteers Needed

PrePostOps is still looking for volunteers for both pre event set up, and post event tear down.

Contact Lurko at https://www.burningflipside.com/contact to sign up.

Guardians Needed

Do you wanna feel like a “superhero” and keep Pyropolis safe? Need a little reprieve from the constant hum drum of Flipside? Do you wanna play with night vision?! Well, let me tell you, Guardians department is right up your alley!

We are stationed along the perimeter of the property and make sure hooligans aren’t trying to sneak in. Night shifts include night vision to help you see in the dark like Batman nudge nudge

Shifts are only 4 hours long (6 hours if you have a lead position), super chill and quiet. Perks of being a Guardian include awesome swag if you sign up for 2-3 shifts. So come join us, have fun, and get super cool points under your utility belt for volunteering. Volunteering is super sexy, just sayin! Sign up at the Guardians Sign Up Sheet.

No, Really. Volunteer!

Hi Flipizens!

Did you know that this event is completely run off of the power of volunteers and ticket money? 100% of our operations are conducted either by the proceeds from our tickets, or from the sweat (or brain-sweat) of our volunteers — what this means is that if volunteering stops, then the event stops.

So, how do I volunteer? The first option is to head on down to https://www.burningflipside.com/volunteer and read all of the information there.

Your second option will be, this year, to head on down to the Volunteer Grove at the Flipside Civic Center, where we will be experimenting with ONSITE volunteer intake — come physically see who is signed up for stuff, and head on down there. There will also be information there about specialized ways that people can help the event.

Thank you so much for making the event go, and I hope to see you out there!

Volunteer Coordinator

The Official Map!

The Official Theme Camp and Art Placement Map has been released! Check it out!

Marvel in its beauty!

Parking and Towing

When you arrive at Flipside, you will have two hours to unpack and take your vehicles to parking. This applies to all vehicles with the following exceptions: registered art cars and artfully decorated vehicles that you are camping in. If you want to camp in your car or truck, you must have your theme camp leads approval and you must take steps to decorate / camouflage it. Seriously, the least you can do is cover it with a couple of tie dye sheets or celtic tapestries – you know you have them already!

There are many aesthetic reasons for this. Who wants to spend their downtime looking at another white Honda Civic?

But the real reason is twofold: our agreement with the county requires us to strictly segregate parking and camping. We also don’t have enough room to accommodate vehicles in the city.

In the past couple of years, we’ve been somewhat lax about enforcement. This year of “No”, you need to get yer car to parking or invoke the wrath of the Towing gods. We will give nudges both verbal and written. If you don’t move your vehicle, you will be towed to the onsite LOT OF SHAME.

Parking will maintain a log, so check with them if you think your car has been towed! Questions and feedback can be sent to Genesis at https://www.burningflipside.com/contact!

The Earth Guardian Meetup Point Has Moved!

Based upon the very preliminary and entirely malleable not-ready-for-prime-time map, The EG Meetup point has moved (see below). We’ve a new command center for volunteerism at Flipside. The Earth Guardians are joining that force.
EGParade
We will meet at the new location and proceed to our parades from there. Take a moment to sign up (https://wiki.burningflipside.com/wiki/Volunteer/EarthGuardians) and set your parade theme.

Clean Up 2016

Hi, this is Xander, your Clean Up Lead for 2016. We need your help after the event with MOOP Sweeps and as needed tasks. Sign up on the Clean Up Wiki web page.

As a reminder, only those signed up to work on a post-event team, like Clean Up, may stay past 5 PM on Monday, Memorial Day.

Please be accountable and leave NO trace of camping there. If this is a problem, then you are doing it wrong. Please restore your personal area, restore your theme camp’s area, and cooperate with your neighbors and other teams to restore zones and regions to a state better than or equal to the state before the event.

Thank you for practicing the community’s principles.

Feel free to contact with requests, questions, and/or comments: at
https://www.burningflipside.com/contact

 Global Leadership Conference

Every year, Burning Man holds the Global Leadership Conference for its Regional Contacts and leaders in the Burner community around the world. At the just-concluded 10th GLC, Burning Flipside was well-represented, with 10 “community leaders” and three RCs, out of some 500 people from around the world. Three of our representatives were also panelists, sharing how Flipside navigated the Mass Gathering Permit process, how we responded to Floodside, and how we manage growth.

The Flipside community has earned a reputation among Burners around the world for Doing It Right, and those of us at the GLC were excited to share the benefits of our experiences with our peers. We also learned a lot, and should be able to put some of that learning to work improving our organizational competence. And we were inspired by what others are doing to try some new things ourselves. It’s a heady, energizing environment for people who nerd out on improving burn-event operations and building community.

Work Weekend Volunteers Needed

Sign up for Work Weekends!

Please put these remaining dates in your calendars and join us for prepping the land!BurnPile

  • WW-III – April 9
  • WW-IV – May 7

We will be working on roads, clearing downed branches, poison ivy removal etc.
We are also in need of wheelbarrows so if you have them, bring them.
The silk screen should be on site to make shirts, so don’t forget to bring one.
Bring everything you need to sustain yourself for the weekend, and feel free to bring something to share by the fire.
If you have any questions, please let me know!

Cheers,
Saraphina, 2016WWComm

Boundaries and Safety Signage Volunteers Needed

Do you like working with your hands? Do you want to help keep the fun peoples INSIDE the bizzaro world safe zone we call Flipside? The Boundaries and Safety Signage team needs a couple of volunteers!

This is the crew that places:

  • boundary fencing and tape around the event’s perimeter,
  • safety signs at Gate and Greeters, and
  • signs that alert participants to safety hazards such as
    • high-density cactus areas,
    • cliff edges,
    • slippery surfaces, and
    • other danger zones.

We have to erect this stuff before participants roll in on Thursday, and then take it all down on Monday; more volunteer people would make this much easier. Contact Ronin City Signage at
https://www.burningflipside.com/contact to discuss the details.

Guardians Volunteers Needed

Wanna help keep the city safe? Need a little reprieve from the constant hum drum of Flipside? Interested in playing with night vision? Well then the Guardians department is right up your alley.

We’re stationed along the perimeter of the property and make sure hooligans aren’t trying to sneak in. Night shifts include night vision nudge nudge Shifts are only 4 hours (6 hours if you have a shift lead position), super chill and quiet, plus you get awesome swag if you do 2-3 shifts. So come join us, have fun, and get super cool points added under your belt for volunteering. Because volunteering is sexy! – Froggy

Echelon Volunteers Needed

If you’re looking for a volunteer position that is physically low-impact but will have a big effect on the safety teams’ operations, consider joining Echelon. We help the safety teams do their jobs by helping them out with logistics. For more information, please contact Grendel, the Echelon lead at
https://www.burningflipside.com/contact

Parking Volunteers Needed

This year’s parking lead is still looking for volunteers. Parking is more fun with goofy people playing Cornhole, Sack Races, and other various field day games (to be played safely in the aisles already full on Saturday and Sunday) with a Limbo Contest on Sunday afternoon. Sign-up in the Parking Wiki, and also find the Facebook group “Flipside Parkers 2016” for more info.

~Sausage Patties, Parking Lead 2016

Recycling Volunteers Needed

recyclingRecycling will be back this year, thanks to the wonderful efforts of the Recycling Lead and the citizens of Pyropolis. Shifts are 4 hours long, and it’s a great project for theme camps to do together.

Participants who wants to volunteer for recycling: Recycling sign-up is open!

Sound Camp Placement

SOUNDAre you bringing a sound system to Flipside? Are you bringing a LOUD sound system to Flipside? Is your camp going to be an all-night disco bass party? Are you going to be that camp that finally gets the neighbors to call the cops? The sound team wants to hear about it!

Contact Sound at
https://www.burningflipside.com/contact
with details of your sound system, camp size, vibe, musical styles, etc. The sound team works with theme camps and city planning to arrange Pyropolis so the LOUD camps can be loud and the less-loud camps can still get some sleep. Do you have any general comments or complaints about sound at Burning Flipside? We’d love to hear from you!

-stash

Register ALL the Things!

There are some deadlines you need to know about if you’ve got Art to place, Events to list, and Mutant Vehicles to bring to Pyropolis.

Survival Guide (There WILL be a quiz!)

The Survival Guide is THE reference to read for how to make it through a weekend on the pecan playa. It’s where you go to find out the things that Greeters will quiz you on to enter the event. For all our silliness (and we are silly), this bit’s serious. Survival Guides help you survive. That’s a good thing. Download a copy for yourself to get a head start on NO!

Theme Camp Registration

Hello, Theme Camp Leads, Busy Bodies and affiliated Marshmallows!! The day you have been waiting for has arrived! The day you find out when Theme Camp Registration opens! That’s today. The day you find out, that is. Today is likely not the day theme camp registration opens, since you could be reading this any day. Unless you are reading this February 7th. Then today is the day for both!!

Theme Camp Registration opens February 7th, 2016

Theme Camp Registration closes April 1st, 2016

So get your theme camp registration information organized and get that lovely form filled out. Don’t be a fool by waiting to the last minute.

Friendly reminder: the earlier we have your details, the earlier we can place your camp. Hint hint. Nudge, nudge. A nod’s as good as a wink to a blind man.

I’m not entirely sure why I called anyone a Marshmallow. It just… felt right. Maybe I’m hungry.

Never say I don’t love you,

Seriously. Call for Sticket Designs

Hey Flipizens! Would you like two free tickets to Flipside 2016?
And did you know that designing the art for the ticket or the sticker is actually the only way to get TWO free tickets to Flipside?!? Leads, volunteers, even LLC members, pay for their tickets.

Design the Flipside ticket or sticker and submit your design today! The person who submits the winning STICKER design will get TWO free tickets to Flipside 2016. The person who submits the winning TICKET design will also receive TWO free tickets to Flipside 2016.

Keep in mind all designs must be original. No clip art, and positively NO copywritten material may be used. The designs can be created digitally or by hand. You must follow the specifications listed below, or your design could be disqualified.

SticketSo break out your pen, marker, crayon or stylus and get the ideas flowing. Hand-drawn submissions are perfectly fine, but must be delivered before the deadline: 10 pm Friday January 29, 2016.
Submit your designs or any questions to Rufus & SuzyQ at
https://www.burningflipside.com/contact

We will positively confirm every submission we receive, so if you do not receive a confirmation within a few days, please email us back, and we will confirm receipt.

TICKET Design Details:

Please include the following information within your Ticket design:

Burning Flipside
No
May 26-30, 2016
www.burningflipside.com

Please do not post or display your ticket design anywhere else until after the contest ends. (The artist for the winning ticket design will be asked to refrain from posting it anywhere until after the event.)

  • Artwork should be 2.375 x 4.375 inches.
  • 1/8 inch all around WILL BE CUT OFF creating a final size of 2.125 x 4.125 – this extra space is called bleed.
  • Artwork should be CMYK.
  • Artwork should be supplied at 100% as either vector based art (Illustrator or Inkscape) or at 300dpi if it is a Photoshop file.
  • If Photoshop – .tif, .eps, .psd and .jpeg files are preferred. Please save jpeg files with “maximum quality”.

Tips for successful reproduction of your design:

  • Do not place text too close to the edge of your design. It should be 1/8″ in on either side once the artwork is trimmed. Pick fonts that will be easy to read and try to not use a font that is really thin on a dark background. It will “plug-up” and be hard to read.
  • Do not get too complex, it is often easier to create artwork at a larger size and reduce it down. Keep in mind what it will look like at the smaller size.
  • If you create your art in layers, be sure and save that layered file just in case the printer needs anything altered – this will make it easier on them and you.

STICKER Design Details:

Please include at least the following information within your Sticker design:

Flipside 2016

  • Sticker Art should cover a 2.5″ circle at 300dpi.
  • Make your design simple! Intricate and super-fine lines (less than 1-pt) tend to dry up in the screen and will not show up on the sticker. (For your reference, 1pt lines are roughly the same size as what a medium ball point pen will draw. It is a good idea to keep important elements of your artwork at least 1/8″ from the edge of the sticker to allow for cutting. Serifed fonts can be a nightmare – especially at small point sizes. Set all type to at LEAST 10 points.)
  • In the past we’ve only printed black and white stickers, or another color and white. Grayscale or gradients are a real pain and don’t print very well, so try to stick to solid colors. All halftones are screened at 55 lpi.

We look forward to seeing the designs as they come in. It is an incredible outpouring from this intensively creative community! It’s a pleasure to serve as your sticket team.

If you have any questions, just let us know.

Love,
Your Flipside 2016 Sticker/Ticket Selection Team,
Rufus + SuzyQ
